Public Rage of Women is a photography project by Anna Meurer that confronts the social contract of “feminine politeness” by documenting women in states of raw, unfiltered fury within the public sphere.
Inspired by the book „Women in Rage“, this project explores the cultural taboo surrounding female anger. In our society, women are conditioned to suppress frustration, perform calmness, and internalize their grievances. We rarely see the face of a woman’s fury—and we almost never see it in the open.
By capturing these moments of explosive emotion in mundane, everyday locations—supermarkets, bus stations, and crowded cafes—this series challenges the viewer to look at the “unbecoming.” It is a visual reclamation of space, celebrating the visceral beauty of finally letting go while simultaneously confronting a society that has long demanded such emotions stay hidden. These images serve as a reminder that anger is not just a private burden, but a powerful, public truth.
