By the end of May I did a photoshoot with 👉 Joelle again, but this time for a totally different reason. I had the chance to capture her personality for an article in the 👉 July issue of the Estonian Magazine „Anne & Stiil“. This time with make-up done by the talented 👉 MUA Liisa and the outfit is from the fashion designer 👉 Taavi Turk.
Location
As you may already know, I don’t use a studio at all for my photo session. So the big question for every photoshoot is always about the location. Where can we do this? Which location would be best for this photoshoot? Is there enough privacy to ensure a relaxed and safe atmosphere for everyone on the set. Joelle isn‘t that shy, so we could consider some places in the old town. However, we still needed a place that wasn‘t too crowded. So we both did some research and found two spots. The third location was kind of spontaneous. I was walking in the hallway of the building, where Liisa has her studio and Joelle was getting her make-up done. I instantly fell in love with the stair case and the ambient lighting.
But also our last location – the freedom square – which is surprisingly not too crowded, because people are mostly passing by, has a beautiful, almost studio-like setting with diffused light.
A different side but still Joelle
This was my second photoshoot with Joelle and it has been an absolute pleasure as always. She‘s a natural in front of the camera and has so many different sides and layers of personality. The setup was completely different from the previous photoshoot, so I was curious to see how it would turn out and how to find and capture the essence of her without loosing sight of the initial purpose of the photoshoot – the photos for the article. It‘s about her life journey as a trans woman and her coming out. So a very very personal article and the photos should reflect that.

Always be prepared for a surprise 😊
That‘s the fun part about shooting in a public space. Not only that some tourists took some photos of us, suddenly this curious dog showed up while Joelle was squatting for a shot. 🤣
